Mildura Primary School No. 2915 is one of four large primary schools in the Mildura Rural City Council local government area. The school currently serves a student enrolment of about 470. Grades P-2 are currently located at the Junior School , approximately 400m from the Senior School , where grades 3-6 are based. The dual site arrangement poses unique challenges and opportunities for whole school initiatives. Interactive whole school activities, shared specialist programs, regular whole school meetings, buddy grade activities and a school news bulletin (daily) contribute to a strong feeling of school unity. The linking of the two sites by underground fibre optic cable has further enhanced communication and resource sharing between the sites.
The school buildings are in sound condition and are aesthetically pleasing. Grounds and garden areas have been greatly assisted by the installation of computerised watering systems. The school is extremely fortunate to have access to substantial Mildura Rural City Council community facilities adjacent to the school. These include a library, hall, indoor and outdoor pools and ovals. Regular use is made of these facilities throughout the year.
Mildura Primary School has an active commitment to Sport and Physical Education and has teams competing in local competitions. Music groups also participate in district activities. Local businesses have been very supportive of individual academic achievement, school sporting teams and music groups through sponsorship and awards. An extensive direct experience program and a unique Land care initiative provide children with significant opportunities for ‘hands on' learning.
Staffing has been very stable, however, during the last couple of years retirements have commenced and young teachers are being appointed. This has proved to be invigorating for the school. A good mix of male and female staff members has been maintained. |
